13 Amazing Tips to Maximize Your Savings at Gap

Do you love shopping at Gap but hate the high prices? Well, these savings tips are for you!

From maternity wear to clothes for kids and teens, Gap offers great clothes for everyone in the family. And now, you can stretch a dollar to really cover everyone with these amazing saving tips.

Before we dive in, you should know the golden rule for shopping at Gap: never pay full price. Shopping at Gap can mean saving money–and here’s how!

1. Start Shopping the Sales Section First

First things first. Always start your shopping trips in the sales section. You can shop sales online for great deals like 40% off.

And, if you’re shopping in-store, start at the very back of the store. That’s where sales and clearance items are typically kept, while the new arrivals (aka expensive items) are usually on display near the front of the store.

No matter what you’re shopping for, be sure to see if there’s a cheaper version on sale. And if there isn’t, you can still save with these next tricks.

2. Always Use Coupons!

As soon as you arrive at GAP’s site, you will see a “my offers” tab with some sweet deals. You could get up to 50% off select items, take an extra 10% off your entire cart, or buy a 3-pack of masks for only $3! While these deals are available to literally everyone who shops online, that doesn’t mean they’re not special–or useful.

You should always take advantage of all the coupons at your disposal, and that starts on the homepage.

3. Use Coupons from Koopy.com

If you’re not satisfied with the coupons on Gap’s site–and honestly, even if you are–you should check Koopy.com for even more opportunities to save. You can find great deals like 20%-50% off select items and free shipping!

Don’t limit your horizons when it comes to couponing, and take a look at Koopy.com before you shop.

4. Stack Coupon Codes as High as You Can

When it comes to coupons, you’ll want to make sure you’re stacking as many as humanly possible.

When you checkout online, you can stack up to five rewards codes at checkout plus as many unique and valid coupon codes as you have. The only catch is that they need to be different kinds of coupons. For example, you can’t stack 20% off your entire order with a 30% off your entire order coupon. But you can stack one of those with a discount off a single item coupon.

Better yet, when you shop in-store, you can seriously stack coupons, too. And if you politely ask your sales associate if there are additional discounts, they might just help you out.

5. Buy Discount Gift Cards

If you haven’t heard of discount gift cards yet, you’re missing out on serious savings. Essentially, you can buy Gap gift cards online at sites like Raise and GiftCardGranny for up to 14% off. When you do the math, that’s straight-up free money.

The best part is that when you pay with gift cards this way, it’s like stacking an additional 10% off coupon.

Before you buy, make sure you’re using a reputable site.

6. Take Advantage of the Two-Week Price Adjustment

Gap offers a sweet price adjustment policy, which means that you can get a discount if your item goes on sale after you’ve purchased it. The price adjustment period lasts for 14 days, so you should keep an eye out even after you’ve bought your items.

Keep in mind that “final sale” items are not eligible–and neither are items purchased with promo codes or additional discounts other than free shipping.

To redeem your price adjustment, all you need to do is get your order number ready and contact Gap at 800-427-7895.

7. Shop Gap Factory

When you shop online at the Gap Factory outlet store instead of the usual Gap site, you can find awesome deals that you’ve never seen before. It’s not uncommon to find awesome items listed for 60% off or more–and that’s before you apply your additional coupons.

Plus, GapFactory has their own in-house design team for exclusive jeans that you can’t even find at Gap–and they’re usually cheaper than Gap jeans. In addition to that, these jeans often go on sale for up to 60% off. So, being patient can pay off.

If you’d rather shop in-store than online, use the Gap store locator to find out if there’s a Gap Outlet near you!

8. Earn and Redeem GapCash

GapCash is an awesome program that Gap offers at different times throughout the year. Basically, when you spend a certain amount of money, Gap will give you a coupon that you can put towards your next purchase. They offer regular and double earn days. Those double earn days are when you really want to go shopping.

When you spend over $50, you can earn $20 in GapCash on a regular earning day and $40 on a double earn day.

The catch is that there are predetermined redemption periods. And there are spending requirements for redeeming the GapCash. For example, if you want to redeem a $20 GapCash coupon, you’ll need to spend at least $50.

9. Return Items You Don’t Love

We’ve all been there. You buy something online you think you’ll love, and when it arrives, it’s not as great as you thought it would be. Luckily, you don’t need to let your less-than-perfect garments sit unworn in your closet.

Gap offers an easy return policy that lasts for 45 days. It’s completely free, but you will need your invoice or the card you used to buy the items. Oh, and the items must be in their original condition and not marked as “final sale.”

10. Sign Up for Text Alerts

One way to stay up-to-date on recent sales (which you definitely want to do if you want to save the most money possible) is to sign up for Gap text alerts. They’re completely free and super helpful! Just text GAP to 36888, and you’ll get text notifications about the best deals you need to know about.

If you’ve got a running shopping list, wait for a large percentage off storewide sale. Or, if there are specific items you’re on the lookout for, Gap can let you know when the best time to buy is!

You can read about the terms and conditions of the text program here.

11. Say Yes to Emails

While signing up for emails at Gap’s sister store, Old Navy will win you a 30% off coupon for your entire order, Gap’s offer is a bit less appealing: free shipping on orders over $50 and free returns (which you’ll get no matter what).

Stores often change these offers, but while it might be tempting to wait to sign up for a nice deal, keep in mind that you’ll be missing out on the amazing offers that they’ll send your way after you sign up. Whether you’re pulled in by the entrance offer or not, Gap will send email-exclusive deals that you’ll want to take advantage of.

Sign up for Gap emails here.

12. Download the Gap App

If you weren’t aware, Gap has several sister brands, including Old Navy and the Banana Republic. Downloading the Gap app will save you time and energy. Plus, it can save you on shipping when you order across multiple brands.

The app for these brands allows you to seamlessly switch between stores, and you can add items from different stores to the same shopping cart. When you shop this way, you can get your order past the $50 requirement for free shipping much faster.

Download the Gap app for Android devices at the Google Play Store and for Apple devices at the App Store.

13. Ask for a Price Match

This last one works best if you’re shopping in-store. Before you check out, use your phone to go on the app or site. Then, find the items you’re about to buy. If they’re listed for less online, you can request a price match at checkout. It’s that easy!

When you check out, just show the sales associate the item listed on Gap’s site, and they’ll mark it down for you!
