19 Hacks to Save Big at Kroger

One of the nation’s most beloved grocery chains, Kroger boasts a wide selection of items (including their very own Kroger-branded items), a vast number of locations, and just about anything you’re looking for on their well-kept shelves.

And that’s not all – Kroger brings their “A” game when it comes to saving you money. They offer so many opportunities for you to save, that you would seriously be missing out if you didn’t take advantage of all the opportunities!

There are so many it’s hard to keep track, so we’ve consolidated them for you here.

From groceries to gift cards to gas and more, read on for the best tips to save at Kroger!

1. Create an account!

Want to start saving right away? The quickest way to rack up the deals is to create an account online. When you do, you’ll get inside access: promotional emails straight to your inbox letting you know about the latest and greatest savings, access to coupons, and more.

When you fill out your information, look below on the screen. You’ll see two checkboxes: one for emails with coupons and more, and another to send you ads based on your purchase history. Make sure to check both – that’s how the savings roll in.

The main thing: You’ll also get a Plus Card number!

2. Use your Plus Card!

This is your key to savings at Kroger. There are so many ways to save with your Plus Card! We’re listing them in the next several tips, but wanted to give the Plus Card its own space to call out the possibilities!

3. Download their digital coupons!

Kroger takes savings the extra mile by offering digital coupons! These are only available to those who have an account (see? I told you), and you don’t want to miss out!

Simply sign in and “clip” the coupons you want. They had some awesome savings recently – for example, Prego Spaghetti sauce for only .99 per jar, or a dollar off of a pint of heavenly Magnum ice cream.

They even have coupons for their private-label Kroger brand – think .50 off their onion rings, a dollar off their cracker-sized cheese, or .75 off their frozen broccoli florets.

After you “clip” them, the coupons are added to your Plus Card automatically – and they get deducted automatically from your purchase price when you buy the item.

Kroger really does make it easy for you to save!

4. You can also get cash back!

Yet another benefit of being a Plus Card holder! Want to get paid to shop? Kroger does just that with its cash back program! Kroger will have certain items where they’ll return part of the purchase price to you.

You can load cash back offers on your account, and once you buy the item, you’ll get a certain amount back. Then you can have the cash back on your card or PayPal account!

5. Check out their Weekly Ads!

The Plus Card benefits keep coming! Kroger always has something going on, and you can keep on top of it by checking out their Weekly Ads. Choose between their traditional weekly ad or choose the “Ship to Home” version and find your items for the week!

Recently the traditional weekly ad had name-brand chips for $2.49 each (their store brand was an amazing .99!), a Buy One, Get One Free on Nature’s Bounty Vitamins, and Kellogg’s Eggo Waffles for only $1.99 each!

NOTE: You’ll see the words “with card” on the ad next to the items – you know what that means! Yet another reason to have your own account!

The “Ship to Home” ad has some great deals, too – these seem to have items that are less grocery store items, and more geared toward home and/or entertainment. For example, a recent ad featured a smoker, a Nerf Super Soaker, and a car care and tools kit. Check out everything to see what you find!

Okay – so we’ve talked about the grocery benefits of having a Kroger Plus Card, but we’re just getting warmed up. Kroger also offers awesome savings on … GAS!

6. Rack up gas savings!

Aside from all of the savings you can get as a plus cardholder, it gets even more exciting when you consider the fuel savings!

That’s right – your Kroger purchases can add up to quite a discount on gas:

• Get one point for every dollar you spend at Kroger (including ship to your home)!

• Gift Cards? Get TWO points for each dollar!

• You can get points on some prescriptions, too.

• Each dollar you spend at Fred Meyer Jewelers is also eligible.

Every 100 points equate to a .10 per gallon discount, redeemable at Kroger Fuel Centers!

BONUS TIP: Kroger recently ran a promotion for TWO TIMES the fuel points from Thursday to Sunday with a digital coupon! This may happen a lot or only during certain times, so keep an eye out for it!

7. Get the Kroger Rewards World Mastercard and take advantage of amazing perks!

Kroger has their own credit card, and they treat you to all kinds of rewards when you use it:

  • 1 Fuel Point per eligible net dollar wherever you can use Mastercard
  • TWO Fuel Points for each eligible net dollar spent at Kroger Companies (other than Fuel Centers)
  • Get $5 in FREE groceries for every 1000 points
  • Get an extra .55 off each gallon of gas for a year each time you redeem a minimum of 100 Fuel Points
  • Travel Services, Emergency Benefits, and Enhanced Theft Protection.
  • One of the best parts? You can get all of this for no annual fee!

8. They have a Debit Card, too, which offers a lot of savings!

If you’d rather get a debit card, you’re in luck, because Kroger offers one of those, too! And when you use it, you can score 50% more fuel points.

You’ll also snag a 2% discount on Kroger branded items, and there’s no annual fee!

9. One more fuel-saving tip!

Love that fuel discount but don’t have points to redeem? Kroger’s got you – simply scan your Plus Card or enter your alternate ID (you can create that during account creation) at fuel centers to get .03 off per gallon!

This is a great way to save a little extra cash.

10. Stock up on essentials and save when you buy 6 or more.

Busy families have a lot going on, and anything that will make food planning and meal prep easier is a must.

Kroger gives you a leg-up on this by offering a variety of items that are popular in most households and handing you a sweet deal: when you mix and match and buy at least six of those items, you’ll save .50 each. That means if you buy 6, you’ll automatically save $3.

And if you buy more than that, the savings keep coming. Recent items included cereal, breakfast items, and condiments. These aren’t weird items you’ve never heard of – these are brand names (AND some Kroger label items) that you probably have in your kitchen right now!

11. Get a discount when you try shipping to home for the first time.

Curious about shipping products to your home but just haven’t tried it yet? Kroger wants you to take a chance on them, and they sweeten the deal by giving you a 15% discount on your order.

This is a great chance to see how you like the service while grabbing a good discount at the same time!

12. Do you like FREE shipping? It’s yours on orders of $35 or more.

Who doesn’t love FREE SHIPPING

For $35 or more, Kroger will ship your order to your home for FREE. It doesn’t get better than that! Most grocery orders will probably be around that much anyway, so why not take advantage of a great offer (and get some downtime at home in the process)?

13. Download the Kroger app.

Want all of the savings and deals right at your fingertips? Download the Kroger app! It’s available on both Apple and Google Play, so you won’t miss a single steal!

“Clip” your digital coupons, look at the Weekly Ads, manage cash back, fuel points, and more! It really is your one-stop-shop for your Kroger shopping trips.

Speaking of apps….

14. Use a rebate app to save even more money.

You KNOW how I feel about Ibotta! They offer savings across so many retailers and items that you’d be crazy to sleep on them.

Available for Apple and Google Play, Ibotta doesn’t disappoint when it comes to Kroger: recent offers included $2.50 back on Incogmeato Chik’n Tenders and $1 off heavenly Halo Top ice cream. Those are just two of the many deals available!

Checkout51 is another app to check out! It’s very similar to Ibotta: choose your offers before your shopping trip, then submit your receipt for savings. You can find this one on Apple and for Google Play as well.

Also, feel free to search in the app store – you never know what you might find that will help you save!

15. Give Kroger feedback via the survey on your receipt, get fuel points and a chance to win!

Kroger appreciates feedback from loyal customers and gives you the opportunity to make your voice heard by taking the survey on the bottom of your receipt.

When you complete a survey, you’ll get rewarded – Kroger will give you 50 fuel points!

That’s not all, though – you’ll also have the chance to enter their Survey Sweepstakes, which awards the winner with $5000 in Kroger gift cards! There are smaller prizes, too: there are 100 chances to win $100 in Kroger gift cards as well.

Whether or not you’re a sweepstakes winner, those fuel points add up! And you get the opportunity to help one of your favorite grocers at the same time! It’s a win-win!

16. Don’t miss the FREE Friday download!

YOU GUYS. What better way to celebrate Friday than with something FREE? On certain Fridays a month, Kroger will have a digital coupon available for a FREE ITEM.

What? Yes. Free. Visit the page in the link on the days the coupon is available, download it (it’s only available if you have a digital account) and you have two weeks to redeem it!

Something absolutely FREE? Yes, please!

17. Grab Kroger gift cards at a discount.

We all love a good gift card, and when they’re available at a discount off the face value? Even better. Fortunately, there are lots of places online where you can find deals on gift cards for Kroger.

Check out Raise.com – they recently had a $15 gift card for $14.82 – 1.2% off the face value.

Cardbear.com is another one – they had a discount of 1.2% recently. Keep looking from time to time to see what pops up – you never know when you might find a good deal!

18. … OR visit their gift card mall and check out their deals!

Yes, Kroger has an online gift card mall – but it’s not just Kroger gift cards you can buy. They have gift cards for several retailers available – and many of them have special bonuses when you purchase them!

For example, recent promotions offered $7.50 off a Bath and Body Works eGift card. Around Father’s Day, they offered a $15 Kroger eGift card when you buy Dad a $75 gift card from Cabela’s.

Those are only TWO examples – so you don’t want to miss out. Check out what you can find!

19. Check out Kroger-branded items.

Looking to save a little extra without sacrificing quality? Kroger has several private-label brands you should definitely check out. These items come with a quality guarantee: if you’re unhappy, they’ll refund or replace your item!

PSST – they also have COUPONS for their brands!

Kroger FAQ

What if I have a Kroger coupon AND one from the manufacturer? Can I use both?

Unfortunately, no. Kroger’s coupon policy states that only one coupon per item is permitted.

I have a Shopper’s Card, not a Plus Card. What’s the difference?

You may have a Shopper’s Card instead of (or in addition to) a Plus Card. According to a Kroger rep, these are the same thing. However, a Plus Card is from your online account and allows you to clip digital coupons and get cashback benefits.

The Shopper’s Card is not linked to an online account and ONLY lets you accumulate fuel points. The good news is that you can link the cards together. You’ll have to contact Kroger to assist.
