Amtrak Ticket Options
Delivery Options
eTicket – eTicket, the most convenient option, is available on almost all Amtrak train routes and Thruway connecting bus services. You will get your eTicket as a PDF file attached to the email receipt sent by Amtrak as well as in the app. Show the eTicket barcode and a valid ID to the conductor or print it before reaching the station.
Quik-Trak Kiosk – You can find a Quik-Trak kiosk at most major Amtrak stations. You can make new reservations, purchase tickets, and pick up tickets from a kiosk. To print your tickets at a kiosk you will need your credit card to activate the kiosk.
Mail – If you have made reservations but not received your eTicket then Amtrak will mail your tickets to addresses in the USA and Canada for no additional charge. Tickets must be purchased 9 days before the date of departure to be sent via mail within the continental US. For Alaska, Hawaii, and most addresses in Canada, tickets can be sent via mail if purchased at least 15 days before travel.
Express Delivery – Express delivery of tickets may be requested for an additional charge and is available only for addresses in Canada and the USA, including Alaska and Hawaii. For express delivery to Canada and the US, reservations must be made at least 6 days and 4 days before travel, respectively.
Onboard Purchase – In limited situations you can purchase your tickets onboard by paying in cash. For boarding at unstaffed stations, you can buy tickets with credit cards at Amtrak.com or on your mobile phone before boarding. Credit cards are accepted on Capitol Corridor trains only for no surcharge. Provide the conductor with a valid email id, billing address, relevant personal details, and payment information to be entered into the mobile app.
Onboard Pickup – If you had paid for your tickets in advance but the departure station is closed at the time of your departure and there is no other delivery option then you can pick up your tickets from a conductor. Amtrak’s online booking system determines whether you are eligible for this option based on your itinerary. Eligible passengers will be presented with the option of an onboard pickup during the booking process.
Delivery Destinations
Tickets cannot be sent by mail to locations outside Canada and the US, including APO/FPO addresses, Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, and other US territories. Express delivery is not available to P.O. boxes.
