How Does JCPenney Rewards Work and Is It Worth It?

JCPenney shoppers can get rewarded just for shopping at their favorite store. Whether JCP is your go-to store for clothes, household goods, furniture, or even salon or optical appointments, the Rewards program pays you to be a loyal customer.

The free program pays decent rewards, especially if you’re a JCP credit cardholder. Here’s everything you must know about the program and how it works.

What is the JCPenney Rewards Program?

JCPenney shoppers can earn points for most purchases made in-store or online, which can be redeemed for a $10 certificate once you have 200 points.

There are two ways to earn points:

Each shopper can earn up to 2,000 points maximum in a single transaction. If your purchase exceeds $2,000 you won’t receive more than 2,000 points.

All points are issued after discounts, coupons, or certificates are redeemed.

How to Earn Points?

You can earn JCPenney Reward points in-store and online. If you use your JCPenney credit card or Mastercard, you automatically earn the points as they automatically enter you into the program. You don’t have to worry about logging in or sharing your phone number at the register (but it doesn’t hurt).

If you’re using any other form of payment, make sure to do the following:

  • If you’re shopping in-store, provide your phone number or email address that you used to sign up for the account. The cashier will look up your account to make sure you get credit for the purchase. You typically get credit for the purchase by the next business day.
  • If you’re shopping online, log into your jcp.com account. The only way your purchase would count if you didn’t log in is if you use your JCP credit card. Once logged in, your purchase is logged adn you earn the points when your credit card is charged and the item ships.

What to do if you Forget to Log or Provide your Rewards Account In-Store

If you forget to provide your rewards information in-store or don’t log into your account online, call JCPenney customer service at 1-888-527-7937 to report the purchase. A representative will walk you through how to prove the transaction so you get your points.

What can you Earn Points On?

You can earn points on most merchandise purchases at JCPenney or jcp.com including purchases at Sephora inside JCPenney, salon purchases inside JCP, optical services, portrait purchases, and custom window treatment services

What can you NOT Earn Points On?

You cannot earn points on purchases you don’t provide your rewards account for unless you use your JCP credit card. You also cannot earn points on gift card purchases, taxes, fees, DoorDash Marketplace purchases, and Sephora purchases made outside of JCPenney.

How do you Enroll in the JCPenney Rewards Program?

It’s easy to enroll in the JCPenney Rewards program. You can enroll in-store, online, or in the mobile app.

Enrolling In-Store

If you’re shopping in a JCPenney store and don’t have a Rewards account yet, just tell the cashier you want to sign up. You only need to provide your name, email address, and phone number to sign up.

If you’re comfortable, consider sharing your birthday too because you’ll get an exclusive reward on your special day.

Enrolling Online

If you already have a JCPenney online account from a purchase you made or you made a salon, optical, or portrait appointment online, you already have an account! Make sure you add your email address to your account so you receive your certificates when you earn them.

Enrolling in the App

How Much can you Earn in JCPenney Rewards?

Like we said earlier, you earn 1 point for every dollar spent using your JCPenney credit cards or 1 point for every two dollars spent with any other payment. Each time you hit 200 points, you’ll earn a $10 certificate. There is no limit to the number of certificates you can earn, but you earn a maximum of 2,000 points per transaction.

When are Rewards Issued?

JCPenney issues reward as soon as you earn them. Once your points hit your account and you’ve hit 200 points, they will issue a $10 certificate.

JCPenney offers several ways to redeem your JCP Rewards.

When do Rewards Certificates Expire?

Your JCPenney Rewards certificates are good for 45 days. You must redeem the certificate by 11:59 PM of the date on the certificate or it will expire.

FAQs – How do JCPenney Rewards Work?

Do JCPenney points expire?

JCPenney points don’t expire. If you earned them AND your account remains active, the points don’t disappear. To keep your account active, you must earn at least 1 point every 12 months.

How many JCPenney Rewards certificates can I redeem at once?

You can redeem up to 10 JCPenney Rewards certificates in one transaction. However, the rewards must not exceed the total of your purchase. Any unused certificates remain in your account but make sure you use them before they expire.

How long does it take to receive my reward?

Once you hit 200 points, you should receive your reward within 24 hours, give or take. You can log in to your JCPenney account to see the status, but you should also receive notification via email that your certificate is available.

How much are JCPenney Rewards worth?

It’s always nice to know how much you’re getting back when you use a store’s rewards program. JCPenney Reward points are worth $0.05 per point and 200 points are worth $10, which is the threshold to get a certificate. This is a higher value than most department stores offer for their reward programs, so it’s a great value if you shop at JCP.

What happens if I return an item bought with a Rewards certificate?

If you are unhappy with an item bought with a Rewards certificate and you return it, you will receive the equivalent of the cashback that you paid out of pocket. You will, however, forfeit any certificates used and will not receive that amount as a part of your refund.

For example, if your total was $100 and you used a $10 certificate and returned the purchase, you’d receive $90 back and forfeit the $10.

Final Thoughts – Are JCPenney Rewards Worth It?

If you’re a JCPenney shopper, the JCPenney Rewards program is worth it. The program is free and you earn either 1 point per $1 spent or 1 point per $2 spent. Either way, you earn a $10 certificate at 200 points, and you can use it on just about anything.

It’s a must-have if you shop at JCPenney even a few times a year or you use any of their services including the salon, optical, or portrait services. Why not save a little money when you shop?
